Architect Geoffrey Mouen has redefined the staple of American housing to reflect the current and future needs of a young, growing family. The two-story, three-bedroom home is a classic cottage featuring a 16-foot deep front porch, a symmetrical main level anchored by a huge kitchen-great room combination along the back, and a luxurious master suite and a pair of kids’ suites all upstairs and away from the public realm. “A couple with a 6-year old and a toddler could live in this house for 10 years,” says Mouen, himself the father of young twins. “It’s ideal for a young family moving up from a condo or older home. They can grow into this house.” Among the home’s design features most treasured by its architect are the master suite (“The ultimate in luxury incorporated into 2,300 square feet,” he says), the relaxing atmosphere of the front porch, the slight shift in symmetry in the home’s entry and a design that enables a wider and more open back yard on a 120-foot-deep lot. The home also employs authentic exterior detailing with modern durable materials, such as fiber-cement siding.
